Thank you for an overwhelming response to my last article. So many of you wrote to me, called me and even told me in person how the article resonated with you. I am touched to say the least! A lot of you have also asked me for solutions- the article ended on a philosophical note but what about practicality? How do we get the little ones ready for the big bad world? Sharing my thoughts on the same. Please bear in mind I am a first time mother and I act largely on instincts since I don’t have a lot of experience.

  • Teach the child to share everything with you. Encourage them to share every detail of their day with you- know who all they interacted with.
  • Trust them. Sometimes what they share may not make sense but don’t brush it off as something insignificant.
  • Teach them to be independent whether it’s dressing themselves or taking a bath. Earlier the better. This way you don’t have to depend on someone else or the maids to do it for them in case you are busy.
  • Don’t force them to “give a hug or kiss” to any uncle or aunty.
  • And most importantly, teach them to be respectful of others space. Teach them about inappropriate touch. Teach them to not be a victim but at the same time not to inflict pain on someone else too.

Teach them all of the above irrspective of whether you have a boy or a girl and we would have done our bit  in making the world safer and better. 🙂

Last week I was invited to a close friend’s baby shower where the dress code was blue or green Indian wear (preferably saree or lehenga). If you know me you know I don’t have a lot of Indian wear on me and that got me confused for a bit. I however, put together this lehenga outfit using a shirtdress and a long skirt. Let me know how you like it.

Psst: I had styled the same shirt dress from Crow as a cape before.
