Read Part 1 here.

Hello hello! I am back! Was I missed? Ofcourse I was- silly me! 😉

So, this was supposed to be the next edition of our “Like Mother, Like Daughter” series but I’ve managed to push mamma out of this one. She did sneak in one of the pics though! And oh btw- she totally copied my style.

Anyway, I am not going to make this about her. She gets enough footage on the blog as it is- this is going to be about me and one of my little “rants”!

Mamma, papa and I had gone for a weekend trip to Udaipur a couple of months ago and we were all sitting in one of their favourite cafes. We were all having lots of fun, especially me. I was ecstatic because of all the fun food I was getting to eat and was squealing with glee. There was another Indian family (with kids) next to us and they were all indulging me by smiling at me- who doesn’t like a laughing baby?

An elderly Australian couple walked in just then. They weren’t happy with me making all that noise and looked at mamma papa in disgust. MaPa shushed me but I continued being myself. That’s when the gentleman yelled “shut up” at me, got up and walked out- his wife in tow. But, not before he muttered “bloody baby”.

We put it behind us and carried on. Eventually it was time for us to leave so we paid the bill and stepped out. The Australian couple was incidentally sitting outside and when they spotted us, the gentleman spoke to papa- “if you don’t control your kids right now, they’ll turn into monsters. You Indians are so well behaved in our country, what happens to you guys in your own country?” I think that was the last straw for dad. He spoke to him politely and told him Indians make sure they do not step on the toes of their hosts and expect the same of their guests. They take their kids everywhere, unless the hotel management strictly prohibits it. Even here when the couple walked out on the restaurant (which is a very well know luxury property), they weren’t stopped by the staff because all said and done I was having fun on my own table. Agreed, I was a tad bit loud but I was in no way disturbing the decorum or quiet of the place.

I think they were just having a bad day but it did make me wonder if I should be left at home because at 20 months I didn’t know how much noise to make? My parents never take me to the movies but to a restaurant- is that really overdoing it?

All of you who do not have kids might think the Australian couple was right and I can only laugh and shake my head at your ignorance. Wait till you have kids of your own. And those with grown up kids, the smug smile on your face which says Thank God our kids never embarrassed us- you guys have short term memory loss! But most of you identify with me- you may not accept it- but you do and I can live with that. 🙂

Edit by Juhi: So, this is 4 years later. Iy is almost 6 now and has travelled with us across the world extensively. We’ve been to some amazing places where parents bring their kids to dinner with them and no one raises an eyebrow. We have also come across tight lipped places which don’t allow kids- we’ve steered clear of them.
