Today is one of those days when I get all philosophical and share with you some of the lessons life has taught me:

Never take decisions based on how other people think you should live your life. This includes friends and family. They have their own philosophies, dynamics and circumstances. Yours are entirely different. It’s like letting someone else script your life for you. Don’t do that because there is no end to it!

Never cry over anything that can be bought with money. Whether it’s an expensive car that got dinged or your designer outfit that the dry-cleaners ruined. It’s just not worth your energy. I am not someone with a lot of money to blow, I just know that I did have a life before that object so there is no reason why I can’t now that it’s not there any more.

On the other hand, pay extra attention to everything that money cannot replace. Experiences, relationships and moments. None of these will come back if lost.

Never judge anyone by their social media updates. Everyone (including me) chooses to show a particular face to their friends and followers. I don’t like to wash my dirty linen in public and I am sure others don’t as well. What you see is a highly glamourized version of their (or mine) almost average lives.

Wishful thinking won’t get you anywhere unless you work towards achieving what you want. I see a lot of friends on social media updating their statuses to “if travel was free you will never see me”. That’s like saying if I didn’t have to earn my living I would just be a couch potato or that if luxury cars were free you would see me with the latest model every few months. Nothing comes free. If you like to travel, you have to save up- give up on expensive dinners & shopping, buying a car/house and live a basic life till you have enough to go on your dream trip. Even while travelling there are ways in which you can cut down on expenses and still have a brilliant time.

Please do share your words of wisdom/life’s important lessons learnt with me. I am all ears :).

Diwali season means the onset of Diwali parties at work and otherwise. I wore this to a recent Diwali brunch. Thanks to Bhavya for capturing some candid moments as well.
