Gowns have been a red carpet staple since time immemorial. We’ve seen celebrities strut their stuff in gorgeous floor lengths and swooned over their impeccable style. In fact, gowns have almost carried an aspirational aura around them because as regular people we don’t normally get to walk down red carpets and attend Page -3 events.

Well, what if I told you gowns are making an entry into social events and now you can also feel like a diva without waiting for an invite to a star-studded event. What’s even better is that this trend again can be sported by women of any shape and size much like the crop top. So, whether its a god bharai function, or an engagement party or even a formal house party you are hosting-get a gown!

Some things to keep in mind while selecting the right gown for you body type & shape:

If you are pear shaped: Get a gown with spaghetti straps or a V-neckline to highlight the slender upper body and a skirt that flares gradually from waist down. A classic A-line dress in simple lay woman terms.

If you are apple shaped: Opt for a gown with a deep V-neckline (it will draw eyes towards the vertical and not horizontal) and make sure the middle is cinched at the narrowest part of your waistline.

If you are plus-sized: Opt for an empire waist but make sure it is not gathered at the waist like maternity wear. The skirt should start immediately below the chest. Opt for a scooped neckline if you are busty. Don’t let the skirt be too flowy or it will only add pounds to your silhouette.

If you are petite: Look for a style with a waistline above your natural waist, to make your lower half appear longer. Do not go for voluminous skirts or gowns with a dropped waist.

Hope the tips were useful! I dressed up in a gown for a do I had to attend last week. Here are some pics we clicked before steppeing out. Let me know how you like it.

The gown is in the colors of the season with a classy neckline in gold leather. I accessorized it with a “neck-shoulder sling necklace” and a cocktail ring in red and gold. To break the color I opted for a printed clutch in colors that compliment the ring.
